Andreas Kiefer, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, will welcome the participants of the Citizens Summit of Strasbourg in the Palace of Europe, on 14 October 2017. Organised in the framework of the 10th anniversary of the European Local Democracy Week (ELDW), the Summit aims to shape a new Pact of Local Democracy, involving both local authorities and the citizens in order to strengthen their engagement in local politics. Between May and October 2017, Strasbourg residents took part in thirteen thematic workshops on topics like participatory budget, collaborative management of public spaces and facilities, e-democracy, open data, and values of local and European democracy in Strasbourg. Around 700 participants are expected to attend the Summit in order to discuss the proposals made during the workshops and adopt the new Pact of Local Democracy. Coordinated by the Congress since 2007, the ELDW aims to make local democracy more accessibe and understandable for all citizens in order to facilitate their direct implication in decision-making.
