Registration for the 2016 European Local Democracy Week is open!
Since 2007, more than 1000 cities, regions and associations across the 47 Council of Europe member states and beyond have organised public events in the framework of the European Week of Local Democracy (ELDW) - an annual initiative co-ordinated by the Congress to celebrate democracy and foster citizen participation at grassroots level. The main theme of the 2016 edition is “Living together in culturally diverse societies: respect, dialogue, interaction”. To assist the partaking entities in the preparation of their 2016 Local Democracy Week, several tools and texts have been made available on the website: the official logo (in 36 languages), a general leaflet on explaining the concept of the ELDW (in 13 languages), a flyer on the 2016 theme, a concept paper and thematic ideas for the 2016 edition, a list of reference texts, and a handbook on citizen participation. Local and regional authorities, their associations and NGOs, who wish to take part in this voluntary initiative, are now encouraged to register on the official website of the ELDW.
